Connect to CRM Data

If you do not already have an account you can sign up for a free account here.

NOTE: At some point you may see a notification that you need to get Power BI Pro. You do not need to do this. Just close that notification and continue on.

After you have created an account you will see a page like the one below. Select ClickDimensions from the Services menu and click the Connect button within the drop-down menu.

A window will appear prompting you to type in the data center of your ClickDimensions Account exists within.  Type in either US, EU, or AU. In this example, we will type in US, but you’ll want to type in the Data Center that applies to your ClickDimensions Solution. Click Next.

Don’t know which data center your ClickDimensions is in? Open up any ClickDimensions editor or builder and at the beginning of the URL you will either see an eu, an au, or neither. If you see neither – you’re in the US data center.

Change Authentication Method to Basic. You will then see two fields appear for User name and Password:

Power BI Account Key

Place this in the User Name field.

From the same place in CRM (Settings > ClickDimensions Settings), copy the Power BI Token.

Paste this in the Password field.

Click Sign In.

NOTE: Our dev team has worked with Microsoft to come up with a way to make sure that PowerBI will always ask for account credentials when setting up a new service/dataset. If you do not follow the steps below, PowerBI will automatically load data from the last account in the specified Data Center that was set up in PowerBI.

1. Open PowerBI.
2. Add this parameter to the end of the PowerBI URL: ?alwaysPromptForContentProviderCreds=true
3. Press Enter to reload the page with that parameter in the URL.
4. Add a new service/dataset.

Result: After specifying the Data Center/Region, you will be prompted to enter account credentials.
